Biography

Two time ASCAP award recipient Quinn Dymalski (also known by the nickname The Quinny D.) is a composer, saxophonist, pianist, and artist living in Los Angeles, California. A graduate with a master’s degree in music from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Quinn studied composition privately with the legendary composers Vince Mendoza and Bob Mintzer who helped refine his musical sound. He previously earned his undergraduate Degree at the Lamont School of Music in Denver, Colorado. There he won the 2021 Lamont School of Music Jazz Competition, received the Outstanding Undergraduate in Jazz Studies and Commercial Music award, and received three Outstanding Recital awards for his performances. It was also at Lamont that he fell in love with composing music.

By the age of 21, Quinn Dymalski formed his own large ensemble called “The Quinny D Big Band,” and has performed several shows featuring his original compositions and arrangements. Most recently, Quinn released a single titled “Freak Fate,” an 8 piece jazz fusion track on which he collaborated with lyricist Ruby Pucillo, which received an ASCAP honorable mention in 2024. Previously Quinn has also recorded and released a five-track big band record called “Quinny D. Big Band I,” which won an ASCAP award in 2022 for his piece, “Buried.” There are live videos from the album recording session on his YouTube channel.

Quinn’s sound as a recording artist can be described as modern jazz fusion, borrowing elements from many different genres and styles, such as funk, blues, rock, bossa nova, and even heavy metal. While his compositional harmony is often dense and sophisticated, the melodies and songform are simpler and accessible. Quinn’s compositions offer a fresh take on modern fusion by adding elements of pop music, bringing them to a mainstream audience.

Having taken classical piano lessons from a young age, Quinn’s palate isn’t just limited to jazz. He regularly writes contemporary music for ensembles of all sizes, and has received several commissions for concert works. Most recently he has been commissioned to write a piece for piano trio for a group at the Colburn School of music in Los Angeles, which he is currently working on. In addition he is experienced in recording and audio production, scoring for film and multimedia, and working with musical electronics. In 2025, Quinn scored a video game named “Potion Quest,” for which he used electronic music synthesis. For these reasons Quinn prides himself in being a versatile composer and arranger.
